Karl Mercieca

Dr. Mercieca has over 100 peer-reviewed publications to date and his research interests include ocular drug delivery devices, less-invasive glaucoma surgery, glaucoma drainage implants, and complex surgical glaucoma. He has been the primary investigator for several large multicentre trials on novel glaucoma surgery devices and drug delivery systems. Dr. Mercieca is passionate about postgraduate medical education, especially ophthalmology and glaucoma teaching across Europe. To this, he has particular interest in exploring novel ways of learning for postgraduates, including serious games and interactive visual learning. He is the Chair of the European Glaucoma Society (EGS) Membership and National Societies Committee and EGS Co-Chair of the Certification and Subspeciality Exam Committee.
