This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, which cookies we use on pgi-publication.com (the “Site”), and how you can control them. It supplements our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle personal data more generally.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device (computer, tablet, phone) when you visit it. They allow the site to remember information, such as whether you’re logged in or what preferences you’ve chosen, between page loads and between visits.

Some cookies are essential for the site to work. Others are optional and only set if you agree to them. When you visit the Site for the first time, you’ll see a consent banner where you can accept or decline the optional categories.

2. Categories we use

We group cookies into two categories:

2.1 Functional (always active)

These cookies are strictly necessary to run the Site, for example, to keep you logged in after registration, to remember your consent choice so we don’t ask again on every page, and to protect against certain types of abuse. Under GDPR, these do not require your consent because you have asked for the service they enable (logging in, staying logged in).

2.2 Statistics (only with your consent)

These help us understand how the Site is used at an aggregate level, which chapters get the most reads, which countries our readers are in, how many people register per month. We use this to improve the Site and to report to the publisher and sponsor. We do not use it for marketing or advertising.

Statistics cookies are only set if you click Accept on the consent banner. If you decline, we still receive limited, anonymous, cookie-less pings from Google Analytics (via Google’s “Consent Mode”), but no cookies are stored on your device and no individual profile is built.

We do not use marketing, advertising, or profiling cookies of any kind.

3. The specific cookies we use

Only set after you accept the Statistics category on the consent banner.

Google Analytics is loaded via Google Site Kit and runs with IP anonymisation enabled and Google’s Consent Mode v2, so no personal identifiers leave the Site without your explicit consent. Read more in Google’s cookie information.

4. Managing your consent

You can change your consent choice at any time using the Manage cookie preferences link, also available in the site footer. Withdrawing consent will stop future statistics cookies from being set and will send a “consent denied” signal to Google Analytics on subsequent page loads.

You can also delete existing cookies through your browser at any time. Every major browser has a “Clear browsing data” option and lets you block specific domains from setting cookies. Note that if you block functional cookies, you may not be able to stay logged in.

5. What happens if you decline the Statistics category?

You get exactly the same access to all content, nothing on the Site is gated behind cookie consent. The only difference is that we won’t set the two _ga cookies described in section 3.2, and Google receives an anonymous, cookie-less signal that a visit happened. We use this to keep a rough count of usage without knowing anything about individual visitors.

6. Do we share cookie data with third parties?

Statistics data (only if you consent) is shared with Google as part of Google Analytics 4. Google acts as our data processor under a data-processing addendum. No cookie data is shared with the sponsor (AOI) or any other third party.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example, if we start using a new tool that sets cookies. When we do, we’ll update the “Last updated” date at the top and, for material changes, show you an updated consent banner.
